This necklace is a collaboration that includes a rare center-piece "millefiori" bead by Luigi Cattelan and Mario Cavagnis, our friends from Murano, Italy...the Cattelan family has been making glass beads for hundreds of years. This bead was made from "millefiori" rods found in the family glasshouse from a century ago. Naomi and I stayed in Luigi's studio apartment in 2003, and purchased this and other incredible center-piece beads. The Cattelan family is noted for its "Chevron" beads (an important early American trade bead) as well...only at River Street Studio and Gallery!

Hah-nu-nah (Iroquois/Haudenosaunee - "Turtle Island") was created when Sky Woman fell to Earth in torrents and it was covered with water. Animals tried to swim to the bottom of the oceans to bring soil to the surface to re-create the continent. Muskrat succeeded by piling soil on the back of Turtle...
We see Musckrat and Turtle in our yard in the late spring/early summer along Shawme Brook...
